The Kraków mobility

The traditional handicraft, costume and dance. UNESCO Heritage Sites

The main topics of the activities hosted by XI Liceum OgólnoksztaÅ‚cÄ…ce w Krakowie were traditional handicrafts, reducing waste, cultural heritage: traditional dance, costume, crafts, UNESCO Heritage Sites and gamification of field trips with mobile apps. The Learning Teaching Training Activities hosted by XI Liceum OgólnoksztaÅ‚cÄ…ce w Krakowie integrated the project objectives by addressing the cultural, environmental and digital dimensions of the project. Students and teachers gained insight in the importance of preserving the heritage of our European civilization and culture and engaged in cross-cultural exchange of ideas and approaches to educating the youth in that area. Exploring sites important for European culture reinforces the sense of belonging and being a European citizen by seeing the cultural sites as common heritage, seeing how they are protected. The environmental dimension was finely woven into the activities focusing on handicrafts, as it connected to the excess numbers of semi-disposable objects people tend to possess nowadays, instead of finding ways to own better quality, more long-lived items. Environmental education often focuses on how to deal with waste but not necessarily on how to produce less of it. Exploring and producing handicrafts provided a link between tradition and adaptability by means of sustainable behaviour and techniques as a way of broadening the perspective in the awareness of climate change by educating about the negative impact of overbuying instead of repairing, repurposing, hand-making and exchanging goods. An important aspect was using new technologies for exploring the Heritage Sites and making the experience more suited to the cognitive style of contemporary students.
